We are a cooperatively-run grocery store that is focused on bringing quality food and good health to everyone in the Richland Center community. We were first established in 1983 in the basement of the Sears Building by a group of local folks seeking healthy food alternatives for their families. A few years later we bought the storefront two doors down from our new location on West Court. This store was run almost entirely by member volunteers. As more members joined and more groceries sold, we outgrew our space. By July 2007, we moved to our current location, with a new name, The Pine River Market & Cafe, ready to fit the needs of our growing community with one-stop shopping, a cafe, seating, and a fresh new look.
Our Mission, after all these years remains the same, to provide quality food and products at reasonable prices, with preference given to natural, organic, or locally produced goods and to inform the public about the benefits of cooperatives and healthy living. We are always trying to promote environmentally and socially conscious consumer awareness by providing resources for healthy, sustainable living and by providing locally produced, organically gown, and minimally packaged products. We are committed to supporting other local and global efforts that enhance the relationships among people and their environment.
